OKAY! So today was uneventful, which in this part of my life I will take over excitement any day!
Kya has been on the ByPap machine for over 24 hours, they've had to sedate her in order for her to stop fighting it, but at least she is finally relaxed. She has been sleeping soundly and breathing a LITTLE slower. As the days has gone on her CO2 count has gone down a little bit which is a good sign (means she is releasing more of the used air) but she is not out of the woods yet. We still anticipate a long recovery if everything slowly gets better from here on out and we do not have any new hiccups.
The plan for the next 24 hours is to keep her comfortable, keep the continual breathng treatments going, give her chest percussion treatments ( its like a handheld back massager and helps break up mucus in the lungs) and hope she continues keep her lab results in a good range so we can keep her off the ventilator.
Jonathan & I are doing well, we are staying in the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms upstairs for a few days and hope to get into the Ronald McDonald house soon. Nathaniel & Ian are staying at home with Grandma & Grandpa and say they are doing ok. Ian has been asking if it's my turn to come home yet (I think he misses me :-)) and so we'll be home tomorrow to spend some time with them. I was at least able to take a couple of hours here today and sew Ian's costume for Halloween. The staff all laughs at me because we just pretty much move in and take over, but a mothers life must still go on regardless of the drama happening at the moment! I think tomorrow I will start work on some of my christmas presents for the boys that I don't want them to see...he he he ;-)
I want to thank you all for offering up all your prayers for Kya, by the fact that's she has made it this long off the vent I would say they are being answered!!! We really appreciate the out pouring of love for Kya and are reminded why she is here, she touches us all in her own unique way and it is a blessing to be her parents.
With all our love,
Jonathan & Laura
