Kya's Swine Flu Update - Day 2

Kya is still working pretty hard to breathe. Her O2 sats are in the high 70's - low 80's, she is breathing about 55-60 times a minute, she's still on her continual albuterol treatments. So to just give you an idea of what that feel like, run a marathon, get dizzy and light headed and also take some CRACK ...and then you'll know what it's like! We are not anywhere near out of the woods, but praying all will go well.

So just an FYI for all of you. This bug is a bad one, but mostly for people like KYA who have underlining health conditions. The people who they see the deaths in are the late teens - 30's ??? No one knows why because that is NOT NORMAL for flu, the statistics on flu show people with Vitamin D deficiencies have the highest mortality rate. Docs here say that the H1N1 wears down your immune system and the kiddo's are getting secondary pnemonia infections not associated with the virus. In short this all means:

- Take a Vitamin D3 suppliment to help kill your exposure to the virus (I don't have any symptoms yet, and I've been exposed for 2 weeks now, I take 2 doses of 4000 IU's of vitamin D3 a day and vitamin C)

- The deaths are highest for late teens - middle aged, so WASH YOUR HANDS obsessivley!!!

- If you have a history of previous lung infections or Staff infections, be extra careful because these bugs live in you forever, just dormant, and can rear their ugly heads during an H1N1 sickness. What they are seeing in the kids here is a collection of fluid outside the lungs, this by the way is BAD and can require chest tubes to fix. We are fotunate, Kya has yet to get this problem so keep praying. We've gone that route in the past and it's NOT GOOD!

- If you get sick STAY HOME for at least 1 week and minimum or 48 hours after fever has stopped. Most people will get sick and get better, but t's about protecting others who are exposed thru contact with you or where you've been during your day.

Hope this gives you some good info,

Laura
